Commercial Photography and Video Services
Whether your story calls for the depth of a documentary film or the luminous presence of a carefully crafted portrait, I can help. With three decades of experience in both mediums, I bring proven solutions to every project.
My filmmaking spans healthcare, social commentary, and cultural documentation. As a result, my work has reached international audiences across multiple platforms. Meanwhile, my photography encompasses fine art and portraiture. For those who need images that convey professional stature, I work closely with each client to find the proper mood, style, and manner. Throughout all of these distinct services, one thread remains constant: a commitment to human-centered storytelling.
“Working with Thomas was a seamless, professional experience from start to finish. He understood our mission and translated it into compelling, meaningful video content.”
– Amar Dhanraj, MHA
Mount Sinai International

“During our shoot, I never felt managed or posed; if anything, it felt like a conversation between two people, not a performance for a lens. The photographs, naturally, were beautiful.”
– Lee S. Durham

My photography practice centers on fine art and portraiture. This work captures not just how you look, but who you are. Every session is collaborative and thoughtful. Together, we explore the image that best represents you. I draw on decades of experience understanding light, composition, and the subtle space between photographer and subject. As a result, each portrait emerges from a genuine connection.
Photography sparked my passion at age 10. It led me through training at Kent State, University of the Arts, and CalArts. Today, it remains the foundation of how I see the world. I currently teach filmmaking at Indiana University’s Luddy School. However, my creative practice stays active alongside my teaching. This work is driven by a core belief: thoughtful visual storytelling can shift perspectives and impact lives.
Frequently Asked Questions
Every session is collaborative and thoughtful. We begin with a conversation about how you want to be seen and any goals you might have. During the session itself, I draw on decades of experience with light, composition, and the relationship between photographer and subject. The result is a portrait that emerges from a genuine connection.
I’ll offer guidance on clothing, colors, and what to expect during the session. On the day itself, get a good night’s sleep and be as relaxed as possible. I handle the rest, including lighting, direction, and creating a comfortable environment where you can be yourself.
After the session, I carefully review and edit the strongest images. You’ll receive a curated gallery of high-resolution digital files, retouched and ready for use. The exact number depends on the session type, and we’ll discuss deliverables before we begin.
I offer both. Digital files are included with every session, and I also provide access to professional-quality prints through a trusted lab. Fine art and legacy portraits often deserve to exist as physical objects, and I can guide you through options for archival papers, sizes, and framing. Prints are available as an additional service.
My work is grounded in human-centered storytelling. Whether I’m creating a portrait or a documentary film, I prioritize collaboration, listening, and understanding the people in front of my camera. I believe thoughtful visual work can shift perspectives and impact lives, and that belief shapes every project I take on.
Most people feel this way, and it’s completely normal. My approach is designed to put you at ease. Sessions are conversational, not rushed, and I guide you through every step. We take breaks when needed, and I never push for expressions or poses that feel forced. The goal is a portrait that reflects who you actually are, and that requires a relaxed, genuine moment.
For portrait photography, I retain copyright to the images, which is standard industry practice. You receive a license to use them for personal and professional purposes, including print and online use. For commercial video projects, rights are typically transferred to the client upon final delivery. Specific terms are always outlined in your contract before work begins.
Timelines vary depending on scope. A short organizational film might take several weeks from initial planning through final delivery. Larger documentary projects can span months or even years. After our initial conversation, I provide a detailed timeline, so you know what to expect at each stage.
Many of my projects address difficult topics like addiction, illness, and stigma. I approach this work with care, respect, and a commitment to the dignity of everyone involved. Building trust with subjects is essential, and I take the time needed to earn that trust before cameras roll.
Yes. I’ve worked on projects ranging from grassroots community efforts to international productions. During our initial conversation, I’ll learn about your goals and resources, then propose an approach that delivers meaningful results within your budget.
Your involvement depends on the project’s scope. At minimum, you’ll participate in planning conversations, provide access to locations and subjects, and review cuts at key stages. Some clients prefer to stay closely involved throughout production, while others hand off creative decisions after the initial planning phase. We’ll establish a workflow that fits your organization and timeline.
Yes, and I encourage thinking about this early in the process. Footage shot for a documentary or branded film can often be adapted for social media, presentations, fundraising, or internal communications. Planning for multiple uses during production helps ensure we capture the right formats and aspect ratios. If repurposing needs arise after a project wraps, we can discuss options for additional edits.
I begin with research and, when possible, a pre-interview conversation. This helps me understand each subject’s story and builds trust before cameras roll. During the interview itself, I create a calm, focused environment and use open-ended questions that invite reflection rather than rehearsed answers. My goal is to make subjects feel heard and respected, which leads to the kind of honest, compelling moments that drive powerful documentary work.
