Photography

I came to photography in the 1980s through portraiture. It was my first love, and it remains at the heart of my photography. As I learned the craft, I made images of my friends and family. They were convenient subjects, willing to tolerate and encourage my early experiments. There was something deeper at work: I was capturing a history I would cherish. These were faces and moments that would only grow more meaningful with time.

That early instinct still drives my work today. The collaboration with a subject to create a compelling likeness has always been deeply rewarding. There is something almost sacred about this exchange. The subject offers trust. I return attention. Together, we create an image that emerges from a genuine connection.

Historically my focus on portraits of single individuals has been a creative choice. A single subject allows for concentrated attention that group portraits rarely afford. As a result, I can go deeper rather than wider. This approach reveals character, mood, and presence in a way that stays with viewers. That said, my photography services also extend to couples, families, and small groups. The dynamics shift, but the goal remains the same: an image that captures something true about the people in front of my camera.
