Video/Art Installations

From Inside to Out

This is a collection of videos documenting various Video/Art Installations I have created in Indianapolis since 2012.

  • From Inside to Out (2020) I was invited to create a projection-mapping installation for an exhibit at the Indiana State Museum called FIX: Heartbreak and Hope Inside Our Opioid Crisis. This is a short video directed by Autumn Grace Eastom about the creation of my piece From Inside to Out.
  • Staying ALIVE (2015) was created for March Madness in Indianapolis. I installed 351 disco balls (1 for each team in the NCAA) under the train overpass near Lucas Oil Stadium. I then hired DJ Kyle Long to spin records for days.
  • Dream Tree Preparation after its inclusion in the From Now On exhibit at Gallery 924 (see below), the Dream Tree was moved to a location north of Indianapolis. This shows the installation process in its new home.
  • Dream Tree Stop-Motion This stop-motion shows the preparation of the projection-mapping.
  • From Now On By C. Thomas Lewis (2013) A video made by a student of mine, Eric Andrews, documenting the installation process of From Now On.
  • From Now On (2013) A video made by the Gallery 924 about my solo projection-mapping installation at the Indy Arts Council.
  • Better or Worse? (2012) was a projection-mapping installation that was part of a 20 artist exhibition created for the Super Bowl in Indianapolis in 2012. Presenting a variety of images that call into question the nature of visual perception, Better or Worse? draws from the vision exam, the Stroop Effect, and Marcel Duchamp’s film Anemic Cinema while posing the well-known optometrist’s question –– better or worse? By being appropriate in some cases, and in other instances not, the question begs a consideration of the terms by which we evaluate the highly subjective aspect of visual perception.
  • The Making of Better or Worse? (2012) shows the behind the scenes of the frantic rush to create the Better or Worse? installation.
